The Burmilla was first bred in the United Kingdom. The Burmilla was first recognized as a breed in 1984. Burmillas were bred by accident when a janitor left a door open between two rooms where a Chinchilla Persian and a Burmese were waiting to be bred. Burmillas are also sometimes called Australian Tiffanies.
